Why I do what I do?

"Creativity is the way I share my soul with the world." -Brene Brown. That is exactly why I want to share my art, I am ready to share my soul. In the past year, I have grown as an artist and I realize, while there is value in making art, the true value for me is sharing it with others. To have someone look at an artwork, feel something, purchase it and make it a part of their surroundings is a true gift. Creating has been a lifeline for me since my early years, but I realize I have been creating to come to this point in my life. The point where the emotion does not only come from the artwork I create, but also from how it moves people. Art is inspiring, thought provoking, challenging, expressive, purposeful and stimulating. It has helped me through life and I am hoping to share that with others. “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” Pablo Picasso That is why I want to share it, everybody needs the dust washed away from their soul now and again and I am hoping my art can help do that.

Artist Statement: Raine

The world exists as contradictory and inseparable opposites, often referred to as Yin and Yang. This principle can be thought of as complementary rather than conflicting forces.  Its elements are interdependent and interconnected, equal but separate. When two opposing energies combine into one, a complete and whole balance exists.  “There is no shadow without light and no light without shadow....” ― Haruki Murakami.

As an artist, the canvas is a medium where I am able to freely express the observation of this duality in all areas of my life.  As a reflection of this, I focus my energy into emotional connectivity with the canvas.  My desire to connect with the world through art has taken me on a journey of profound self-growth.  I strive to create art that is interesting and compelling, that expresses emotion.  Whether that is peace from a wildflower, a landscape, a city scene or a chaotic abstract, my goal is to move people, to have them feel something when they look at it. I want my art to be experienced, to transform lives, to be symbolic — stimulating, alluring, expressive, purposeful and thought provoking.
